The courses and degrees offered by the Department range from taught courses like B.A. and M.A. to partly taught and partly research degrees like M.Phil. and of course a full fledged research degree like Ph.D. There are at present, 300 students enrolled in all these courses taken together. |
The total number of full time teachers at the Department at present is 21 and 4 more posts are yet to be filled. There are also many visiting and part-time lecturers at the Department during any academic year.
The Department is very strong in research and any profile of the Department will be substantially incomplete without the mention of its research scholars. The Department has several Junior and Senior Research Fellows, part-time registered Ph.D. students and Project Fellows who enrich the Department by contributing towards its body of research. There is an exclusive Research Scholars’ Seminar, held every Wednesday, in which Researchers showcase their works in the presence of teachers of the Department and fellow researchers and there is a lively and fruitful exchange of ideas. The teaching faculty is equally active in both personal and group research and research guidance. There is also a weekly teachers’ seminar on Thursdays. Apart from this, there are also weekly meetings of all the research groups as well as special interest groups like the Ethics Group and the Philosophy of Mind Reading Group.
The unstinted help and cooperation of our non-teaching staff has also contributed to the steady growth of the Department.
