Dr. Chakraborty received the degree of Ph.D. from Jadavpur University. He began his teaching career in Berhampore College from where he joined Rabindra Bharati University as Lecturer in Philosophy before finally joining the Department of Philosophy at Jadavpur University in 2002. Dr. Chakraborty was a Junior Research Fellow at the Department of Philosophy, Jadavpur University during 1985-86 and held a Teacher Fellowship under the University Grants Commission during 1989-1993. Dr. Chakraborty's research interests lie mainly in the areas of the Philosophy of Logic, the Philosophy of Language and Psychological Counselling. But he has other interests as well, particularly in the areas of Ethics, Applied Psychology and Cognitive Science. He is actively involved in psychological counselling and during his career, he has been involved in several projects, notably, one on Turing's Cognitive Model in Logic, Language and Mathematics and another on Connectionist Approach to Linguistic Understanding, both under the UGC Minor Research Scheme. Dr. Chakraborty has written a book called Realism and Its Alternatives, which was published in 2000 by Papyrus. He has also edited a volume entitled, Mind and Language, which was published by the Registrar, Rabindra Bharati University, in 2001. Dr. Chakraborty has lectured in several Refresher Courses and made presentations at several seminars, conferences and workshops. He has also supervised several candidates for the M.Phil. degree and a few others are under his supervision for the degree of Ph.D..
