Dr. Sarkar obtained the degree of Ph.D. from Jadavpur University in 2002 and taught Philosophy at Rabindra Bharati University, from November 1996 to July 1997. He joined Jadavpur University in August 1997.

He visited the University of Liverpool, U.K., as the Charles Wallace India Fellow 2005. His field of interest is Epistemology (Indian and Western), Fusion Philosophy.

Dr. Sarkar co-edited an anthology in Bengali called Manodarshan: Sharirbad O Tar Bikalpa on the Philosophy of Mind published under the Jadavpur Studies in Philosophy, Jadavpur University in collaboration with Asheema Publishers, Kolkata, 2002.
