MADHUMITA CHATTOPADHYAY, Ph.D.
 

Professor Chattopadhyay received the degree of Ph.D. in Philosophy from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. She has been member of the teaching faculty at the Department of Philosophy for a long time.

Professor Chattopadhyay has been a Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study at Simla for three months in 1999. Among her special achievements are a six month Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai Fellowship at the Department of Indian Philosophy, Hiroshima University, Japan in 2002 to work on the philosophy of Dharmakirti. She has also been a Fulbright Visiting Scholar for three months in 2004 at the Western Michigan University, USA, where she offered a course on Buddhist Epistemology at the graduate level.

Professor Chattopadhyay's research areas include Buddhist Logic, Buddhist Epistemology, Buddhist Psychology, Philosophical Logic and she is also involved in academic work on comparative religion, religious studies, Jainism and Indian Ethics in general. Professor Chattopadhyay has been involved in innumerable curricular and outreach activities. She has been a resource person in Refresher courses conducted at several universities in and out of Kolkata. She has been a UGC nominee for the SAP programme of the Department of Philosophy, Magadh University, Bodhgaya. Recently, she has also been a resource person at the Pre-departure Orientation Programme for Fulbright awardees of the year 2005-6.
