JHUMA CHAKRABORTY, Ph.D.

Dr. Chakraborty received her Ph.D. from Jadavpur University in 1992. She worked as Lecturer in Philosophy at the Sri Shikshayatan College, Kolkata for several years before joining Jadavpur University as Lecturer in Philosophy in 2005.

As a researcher, Dr. Chakraborty was recipient of a Senior Research Fellowship under the UGC and was also a Research Associate at the Department of Philosophy, Jadavpur University during 1995-96.

Her research work is on the relation between syntax and semantics with special reference to Chomsky. Her research interests also lie in the philosophies of Hegel, Marx and Gandhi. She is in general interested in Social and Political Philosophy, the Philosophy of Mind and in Environmental Ethics. Outside of academics she is interested in drama and films. She is also involved in organisational activities and is a member of several organisations like Bijnan Mancha and Setu (which works on positive mental health).
